When I chose to have a picture made for the story in front of the Harlem Cigar Room it was out of gratefulness and support to them. I had no idea the cigar would become a symbol of hope and resilience to people around world. That led to a trip to the Dominican Republic and designing my own line, Detra’s Story Cigars. To me, this line of cigars incorporates the grittiness and tenacity of Harlem itself with the passion of the Gomez family and the woman who never gave up.
